Potato and sugar beet yields in most European Union member states are lower than last year and the five-year average. This is evidenced by data from the October Mars Bulletin of the Meteorological Institute of the Joint Research Center (JRC), reports portal Nieuweoogst.nl.
The average potato yield in the European Union (EU) is 33,4 tonnes per hectare. This is 2 percent less than the five-year average and 8 percent lower than last year. The JRC estimates the potato yield in the Netherlands at 41,3 tons per hectare, down 0,7 tons from 2021 and 0,5 tons below the five-year average. This applies to seed and marketable potatoes.
With a yield of 36,8 tons per hectare, the Belgians harvested about 5 tons less than the five-year average and at least 7 tons less than last year. With a yield of 38 tons per hectare, France received more than 3 tons less than the five-year average. Germans harvest an average of 38 tons per hectare, 8 percent less than the five-year average and 13 percent lower than last year.
