According to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation of Peru (Midagri), the potato crop in the country amounted to 5,458 million tons in 2020. This is 13,5% of the total harvest of crops that are grown on family farms in the country.
The area of potato cultivation in Peru is 338,9 thousand hectares. The main production regions are Puno, La Libertad, Huanuco, Apurimac, Cajamarca, Cusco, Junin, Ayacucho, Huancavelica and Ancash. The most popular potato varieties in Peru are Amarilla, Kanchan, Snica, Blanca, Tumbai, Huamantanga, Negra Andina, Peruvita, Perriholi, Tomas and Huairo.
Peruvian potatoes are exported to Bolivia, Germany, France, Spain, USA, Chile, Japan and Canada. The peak in production and exports occurs between April and June. In 2020, the total cost of supplies was $ 7 million.
