Governor of the Vologda Oblast Oleg Kuvshinnikov summed up the preliminary results of the harvesting campaign and predicted pricing for basic foodstuffs, reports official website of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia.
“In agricultural production, the Vologda region follows Russia's strategic course of 100% food supply for residents and annually fulfills this task. This year, thanks to timely state support, the provision of fertilizers at fixed prices and favorable weather conditions, the region can achieve high yields. Even despite the sanctions. This means that Vologda stores will be fully provided with local products, the prices of which will be stable,” the head of the region noted.
By the way, experts do not foresee an increase in prices for vegetables, bread and meat and in the whole country. This is due to the record grain harvest. According to preliminary data, 150 million tons of grain have been harvested in Russia to date. In the Vologda Oblast, this figure is 176 thousand tons, for comparison, for the same period last year, 108 thousand tons were collected. 98% of the fields have been removed, the remaining areas will be processed this week and next.
The head of the region assessed the pace of harvesting at one of the largest agricultural enterprises in the region, located in the Vologda region. The Maisky breeding farm is engaged in the cultivation of the so-called "borscht set", farmers harvested 2900 tons of potatoes, about 2300 tons of cabbage, 900 tons of carrots from the fields. It remains to harvest cabbage from 15% of the area, the rest of the vegetables are being prepared for storage.
“This year has been dry. Thanks to irrigation with the support of the regional government, it was possible to get a good harvest. We have grown twice as many carrots as last year, and the yield of cabbage is also higher. The harvesting campaign continues, approximately all work will be completed in 1,5 weeks. Then we will begin to prepare for the next season, a plan for repairing equipment has been formed, ”said Alexander Baushev, chairman of the Maisky Plemzavod SHPK.
The governor visited the logistics center of the collective farm, where the entire harvest is stored and from where it is then delivered to the consumer. Recall that vegetable stores were built with the support of the regional government, equipped with refrigeration units and a climate control program. The total load of the three blocks is about 10 thousand tons of products.
“When visiting such logistics centers, I feel a sense of pride for our agricultural producers, who not only grew crops in such a difficult time, but managed to harvest them in rainy weather, dry them and store about 45 tons to ensure the food security of the region. It is also important that the entire seed fund is 100% prepared, which inspires confidence in the timely start of the sowing campaign in 2023,” Oleg Kuvshinnikov noted. - Strong state support allows our agricultural producers to develop: more than three billion rubles a year are allocated only from the regional budget, in addition, support is sent from the federal budget and from the Ministry of Agriculture. Our farmers are building new complexes, purchasing equipment, equipping production facilities with robotic equipment.”
At present, the farms of the region have dug out more than 74% of potatoes, its yield is 30 centners per hectare higher than last year. More than 51% of open ground vegetables have been harvested from the fields, the yield is 440 centners per hectare, last year this figure was 373 centners. Cleaning is on schedule and will be fully completed by the end of October.
