Uzbekistan approved a list of 73 companies that were allowed to import potatoes from Kyrgyzstan, and set a supply quota at 145 thousand tons. An agreement was also reached to supply 60 tons of potatoes to Turkmenistan. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Industry and Land Reclamation of Kyrgyzstan.
The ministry noted that despite the fact that as a result of negotiations held in November 2018, representatives of the two countries could not reach specific agreements on the purchase price of Kyrgyz potatoes, there are no restrictions on its supply to Uzbekistan.
“All issues boil down to a lack of consensus on procurement prices and profitability. Currently, potatoes are exported to Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in small batches. As of February 1, 2019, the volume of the remaining potatoes for export in Kyrgyzstan is 70 thousand tons, ”according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
IA REGNUM recalls that earlier Kyrgyz agrarians complained that they suffer great losses when they grow potatoes. They also complained that in the fall of 2018, dealers bought potatoes from them at an extremely low price - at 5-6 soms (4,7-5,7 rubles) per kilogram.
