Uzbekistan has banned the import of potatoes from Kyrgyzstan. This was announced by the director of the Plant Quarantine Department Amangeldi Isaev.
According to him, no official notification and explanation of the reasons have been received from Uzbekistan. “Back in July we wrote a letter to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan with a request to clarify the situation. The answer has not yet been received. We invited them to the Kyrgyz Republic to get acquainted with the products on the spot, ”explained Amangeldi Isaev.
He added that in the coming days, Minister of Economy Oleg Pankratov will go to Tashkent to solve this problem. “Until the harvest began. But we expect to receive up to 1 million tons of potatoes. In previous years, Uzbekistan bought our products well. If the ban cannot be lifted, we still have a sales market in the EAEU, ”said Amangeldi Isaev.
The Plant Quarantine Department assures that potatoes in Kyrgyzstan are not affected by diseases or parasites.
