On March 23, at the initiative of the Office of the Rosselkhoznadzor for the Bryansk, Smolensk and Kaluga regions, a workshop was held on the export of potatoes and the fight against the spread of non-quarantine pests and potato diseases in the Bryansk region.
Event with the participation of Deputy Governor of the Bryansk Region Boris Gribanov, Director of the Regional Department of Agriculture Sergey Simonenko, representatives of the branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Rosselkhoztsentr" in the Bryansk Region, the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Bryanskgrohimradiology", the branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Gossortkomissiya", the Bryansk State Agrarian University, as well as potato farms of the Bryansk Region took place on the basis of the Bryansk branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "ARRIAH" subordinated to Rosselkhoznadzor.
At the beginning of the meeting, it was noted that the potato industry is of great socio-economic importance for the Bryansk region. So, in 2022, agricultural producers of the region produced about 945 thousand tons of potatoes, and the total production volume exceeded 1 million tons. At the same time, more than 5,5 thousand tons of potatoes were registered for export last year.
The head of the Rosselkhoznadzor Department, Svetlana Zemchenkova, drew attention to the fact that this meeting was due to the fact that the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance received notifications from the recipient countries of Russian potatoes about the identification in certain export lots supplied from a number of regions of our country, quarantine for data states of organisms. In particular, at present, a similar situation takes place in relation to the Republic of Azerbaijan, for which quarantine objects are such objects that are non-quarantine for the Russian Federation, such as bacterial ring rot and potato stem nematode, which in turn may threaten export restrictions for individual farms or even the whole region.
She noted that in order to prevent such restrictions from being applied to enterprises in the Bryansk region, all batches of crop products intended for export must be formed in strict accordance with the requirements of importing countries, preventing contamination of products, including objects, by non-quarantine for our country, but quarantine for consignees. The participation of farms in ongoing state monitoring and survey activities can play a great role in this matter. For example, in 2023, the phytosanitary inspectors of the service plan to examine more than 8 thousand hectares of potato plantations.
Then the specialists of the supervisory authority spoke about the requirements for seed material during production, storage and use. It was noted that during the control of imported imported seeds, deviations from the current requirements are often detected. In this connection, farms should be more attentive to laboratory studies of planting material purchased, including from abroad.
In addition, Alexander Frolov, director of the Federal State Budgetary Institution Rosselkhozcenter for the Bryansk region, told the audience about measures to combat stem nematodes and potato ring rot.
Participating in the discussion of this issue, Professor of the Department of Agronomy, Breeding and Seed Production of the Bryansk State Agrarian University Nikolai Shpilev and Associate Professor of the Department of Agronomy, Breeding and Seed Production of BSAU Irina Sycheva made a proposal to carry out comprehensive work to prevent the spread of these diseases and pests in the region.
In conclusion, all participants supported the opinion that in the issue of combating non-quarantine pests and potato diseases in the Bryansk region, attention should be paid to the quality of the planting material used, agrotechnical, chemical and biological measures.
