On April 14, at the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Chuvash Republic under the President of the Russian Federation, Plenipotentiary Representative Pyotr Chekmarev, together with the head of the Chuvash Ministry of Agriculture Sergey Artamonov and heads of potato farms of the republic, discussed the implementation of the project for the construction of a potato processing plant. Olga Bulai, a representative of LARSSON, presented a project that aroused the interest of potato growers in the republic.
President of the Association Soyuzkrakhmal Oleg Radin spoke about the current state of the starch market and the prospects for the development of the industry, noting the demand for high-quality potato starch on the world and domestic markets.
“I think that the implementation of the project will help bring potato growing in our republic to a qualitatively new level,” said Sergei Artamonov.
Note that in terms of the volume of potatoes produced in the large commodity sector (agricultural organizations and peasant (farmer) households), the Chuvash Republic is in 2nd place in the Volga Federal District (after the Nizhny Novgorod region).
About 300 agricultural producers (293) are engaged in potato cultivation in the republic, 50 of them can be classified as large (planting area over 32 hectares). Large-scale production is concentrated in Batyrevsky, Kozlovsky and Komsomolsky districts. These regions account for 44,7% of the potato planting area.
