Bioengineers from the Danish Institute of Technology have launched the innovative SinProPack project to provide the country with biodegradable takeaway packaging. According to them, a new eco-friendly material made from grass fibers could be a healthy alternative to plastic.
First, protein will be extracted from the grass, including clover, and sent to livestock feed. The remainder, rich in fiber, is peeled, crushed and compressed. The resulting herbal cellulose will be used to make packaging for food and drinks.
It is known that Denmark annually consumes more than 10 thousand tons of packaging. If you replace it with biodegradable, it will reduce emissions by 5% or 210 thousand tons of CO2 a year.
