At the same time, in July 2018, experts predicted a decrease in yield of no more than 6%. According to the EC, the most significant yield decline, by as much as 25%, is expected in Germany, which is the largest potato producer in the EU.
“Moreover, the potato harvest in this country may be the lowest in the last 28 years. Experts note that one of the factors that led to a decrease in the yield was the reduction in production areas, ”the report says.
12% lower crop in the current season will also collect Belgium and the Netherlands. The percentage of decline in yield in the UK, experts determine in the range of 15-25%. In Poland this year, according to the EC, the potato harvest will be reduced by 9,4%.
Experts from the Association of Potato Producers of Northwest Europe (NEPG)) expect that a decrease in crop volumes will lead to higher prices for potatoes during the season. Recall that severe drought in some areas of Germany led to the loss of up to 70% of the crop.
