This summer in Germany, especially in the east of the country, there will be an even worse heat wave than last year. This was reported by the German Meteorological Service (DWD).
According to meteorologists, already now the temperature has reached record levels. In many regions of the country, the soil is much drier than the average over the past few years. For example, in the same month of last year, there was much more moisture in the soil than now, and full heat was established only in the summer. However, all the months from April to November were much warmer than before.
According to experts, this year farmers again expect huge losses in productivity, as well as forests and plants that absorb moisture in deeper layers of the soil. So far, they tolerate heat well due to the residual moisture reserves after precipitation in the 2017-18 agricultural year. But soon they will end, and the water level in the reservoirs is approaching a critically low level. According to experts, Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt suffered the most. For example, in the first land, soil moisture is now as low as last July. In the second, the moisture level in the earth was also below average. Meteorologists believe that this situation will continue until the end of the summer, even with frequent rains this season.
According to media reports, emergency measures are being taken throughout the country. For example, in Brandenburg, because of the danger of forest fires, local authorities banned the lighting of traditional Easter bonfires. The German Fire Service Association also asked the government to increase the number of special helicopters for transporting water tanks.
