It is reported by Deutsche Welle.
The decision was made to protect against possible interruptions in the harvest of vegetables and fruits and due to problems with personnel. This issue was considered at a meeting between the head of the country's Ministry of Agriculture Julia Klöckner and the country's Foreign Ministry Horst Seehofer. It is planned that half of the migrant workers will have their entrance opened this month, the other in May. Most of the workers will be from Poland, Romania and Ukraine. These will be unemployed, students and those who have lost their jobs due to forced self-isolation.
Now the virus has been defeated in the country, but special conditions will be applied to workers for prevention. For example, they will be allowed to enter the country only by plane or by small groups of people protected by special means. All groups should be isolated from each other and will not be able to go beyond the boundaries of enterprises. Also, the state of health of workers will be checked at the entrance and exit at the border, and two-week quarantine will be introduced for them at enterprises.
Note that the Netherlands also faced similar problems. But, unlike Germany, there is a difficult situation with the coronavirus, which is why the borders are closed. Thus, it is impossible to attract seasonal workers to the field work, therefore, the country's authorities choose from local residents. Now the country has created a website where farmers post their vacancies.
