Khabarovsk farmers harvested 86,8 thousand tons of potatoes - this is 85 percent of the harvested area, reported to Interfax at the regional ministry of agriculture and food.
"The region's farms are planning to complete the harvesting of potatoes by October 1, open-ground vegetables (late varieties of cabbage) - by October 25," the ministry said.
Currently, potatoes have been harvested on an area of 5,7 thousand hectares. 35,2 thousand tons of vegetables were also received - the crop was harvested from 83% of the area.
In total, more than 102 thousand tons of potatoes and 52 thousand tons of vegetables will be harvested in the region - 25 and 5 thousand tons, respectively, more than in 2021.
Farms can sell surplus agricultural products at fairs, as well as hand over to processing and trading enterprises of the region.
Earlier it was reported that 13 organizations and 86 peasant farms grow potatoes in the Khabarovsk Territory. Under the sanctions, not only farmers in the south of the Khabarovsk Territory are showing interest in potato production, but also farms located to the north. Thus, the sown areas for potatoes were increased in the Amur, Komsomolsk and Nanai districts.
In 2022, the total sown area of land in the region amounted to more than 62 thousand hectares, which is 12% more than in 2021. Of these, cereals occupied 10,5 thousand hectares, soybeans - 35 thousand hectares, potatoes - 6,9 thousand hectares, vegetables and gourds - 2,6 thousand hectares, fodder crops - 7 thousand hectares.
It was also noted that the provision of the region with potatoes is about 64%, vegetables - 28%. According to the estimates of the regional Ministry of Agriculture, in order to cover the needs of the inhabitants of the region for potatoes, it is necessary to put into circulation 3 thousand hectares, bringing the total area to 10 thousand hectares. For vegetables, it is required to increase the sowing three times - up to 9 thousand hectares.
Earlier, the governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Mikhail Degtyarev, stated that in order to ensure the food security of the region, it is necessary to develop uncultivated lands and restore the reclamation complex.
