The regional gastronomic festival “Onion-onion” was held for the 13th time in Luha. By tradition, an agricultural fair was launched for the guests of the festival, a large entertainment program, a concert, a tractor show and other activities were prepared. A special guest of the festival was Konstantin Ivlev, a chef and a popular presenter of cooking programs on radio and TV.
At the onion festival Konstantin Ivlev, the governor of the region Stanislav Voskresensky and his wife Svetlana Dryga visited the shopping and culinary ranks. The famous chef said that he was pleased to take part in such gastronomic events. Now, with the new Gaztro Tour project, Konstantin Ivlev and his team are visiting cities in central Russia to get acquainted with the peculiarities of local cuisine and local specialties, to look at farmers' productions and city festivals.
Stanislav Voskresensky and Konstantin Ivlev also addressed the topic of agritourism. According to the famous chef, this direction is now actively developing. And one of the main conditions is the presence of a particular gastronomic brand, the same food gift that you can bring with you as a keepsake of a visit to a region or event.
In Luha, Konstantin Ivlev prepared soup from the most popular vegetable in these places. Among the ingredients are onions, potatoes, chicken and herbs. He held a master class in preparing soup for the guests of the holiday and said that he was giving the city of Luh his recipe. “I would be proud if at this festival every year they cook such a soup”- said Konstantin Ivlev. After that, the festival guests were able to try the cooked dish from the chef. Stanislav Voskresensky and Svetlana Dryga also appreciated the dish from Konstantin Ivlev.
The traditional gastronomic fair, which unfolded at the festival, delighted the inhabitants of Luh and guests with both unusual and traditional dishes: onion jam and onion tincture, onion muffins, onion marmalade and pancakes with onions, as well as hot oven dishes and farm products. In addition, performances of artists took place at the Onion festival, the headliner of the holiday this year was the group of "Hot Peppers" from Kostroma, who presented the button accordion show. Competitions on weaving onion braids, workshops of folk crafts were held, everyone was able to ride a tractor, watch the demonstrative battles of the military-historical club "Monomakh", and visit excursions. The malls with various types and varieties of onions were very popular.
As the head of the Luhsky region, Nikolai Smurov, noted, this year the regional gastronomic festival was held under the motto: “Russian is unusual. People’s is not boring. ” The festival "Bow - onion" is a good example of an event that combines the traditions of the past and the present, creating an attractive image of the Russian hinterland.
The tradition of holding onion festivals began in 2007 with an ordinary harvest festival where residents of the region sold gifts of gardens and kitchen gardens, the main of which from time immemorial was considered to be onion. In the early years, the Onion Onion festival gathered several hundred people, but in 2018 it was visited by 12 thousand people, including guests from different regions of Russia and some foreign countries, more than 20 tons of onions were sold. In 2018, the Onion Festival took third place in the national event tourism award Russian Event Awards.
