Last week, on the Moldovan market, wholesale prices for carrots increased by 1 lei - on average, up to 5 lei / kg ($ 0,28). Prior to that, prices had been consistently low for almost three months. At the moment, the cost of carrots equaled the August level, the portal reports. east-fruit.com.
Operators of the country's produce market associate the seasonal rise in prices for carrots with the completion of the harvest. Some businesses are still harvesting carrots from small areas. But these products are mainly used for processing or for wholesale and retail markets. Despite the slightly "hooked" quality, the minimum prices for fresh carrots still increased.
Traders explain this by the fact that producers of the highest quality carrots have laid them in storage, tentatively - until the second half of winter. The supply of medium and low quality goods is now noticeably decreasing.
According to traders, the process of activation of carrot import has not yet been observed. In Belarus, the price is still higher ($ 0,32 / kg), in Ukraine - slightly lower ($ 0,22 / kg), but this is still not enough for mass deliveries.
Turkish imports can already be seen in some supermarkets in Chisinau, but they are positioned in a different price category. Imported carrots have not yet influenced the overall picture of sales of fruit and vegetable departments of most stores.
