According to the portal Eastfruit, last week for the first time in December of this year on the domestic market of Moldova, wholesale prices for potatoes fell by about $ 0,19-0,25 / kg. This is the price range of mid-November, when freshly harvested potatoes were periodically supplied to the local market directly from the fields.
According to representatives of the Association of Potato Growers of Moldova, at the end of the first week of December, a number of potato farms harvested the last harvest of late potatoes - from the fields planted in July. Usually these products are put into the seed fund. But the largest tubers are sold as food. This year, late potatoes grown in specialized agricultural enterprises are of high quality.
Large potatoes are perceived by the Moldovan consumer with caution, they write them off as “imported, overfed with fertilizers”. The demand for such a product in supermarkets is not great; it is purchased for current consumption. This circumstance puts pressure on store retail prices.
At the end of November, traditionally, some supermarket chains began to import potatoes from Ukraine and Poland. The volumes of supplies are still small, but they can also affect prices in a situation when the supply of goods on the market is still large.
