To exchange experience, develop the domestic market for deep processing of grain and unite members of the professional community, the SoyuzStarch Association organized the V international conference “ProStarch: trends in the market for deep processing of grain”, which was held on June 4, 2021 in Moscow.
For the first time, the conference was held in a hybrid format, not only live, but also online, which made it possible to unite Russian and foreign companies in the industry. This year the event is being held for the fifth time, 2021 people from Russia, Germany, Sweden, USA, China, Belgium, Switzerland took part in the ProStarch 50 conference.
The partner of the event was the "Symbio" company. LLC "Simbio" has been providing promotion and implementation of effective enzyme complexes at grain processing enterprises in Russia for more than 20 years. Along with the distribution of high-quality enzyme preparations Novozymes A / S (Denmark) - the world leader in the development and production of industrial enzyme preparations and a strategic partner of Symbio LLC, the company's specialists provide a full range of technical and biotechnological services related to the use of enzymes at enterprises ...
In the first session of the event, important and topical events in the grain processing industry in Russia and the world were highlighted. The session was moderated by Alexey Ablaev, President of the Russian Biofuel Association. Dr. Velamur Krishnakumar, Executive Director of GIRACT, spoke about food starches in the modern world, global trends and prospects. Jamie Fortescue, Managing Director of Starch Europe, introduced the post-pandemic European market for starch and its derivatives. In turn, John Bode, President of the Corn Refiners Association, briefly described the post-pandemic US deep grain processing market.
Andrey Vusyk, Deputy General Director of Mayande Group, presented the Chinese deep processing market: “The price of corn starch from the beginning of 2020 to the current time in China has increased from USD 361 per ton to USD 550. The cost increased by 52%, mainly due to higher prices for raw materials. The price of maltose increased from $ 338 to $ 523. For crystalline dextrose - from $ 385 to $ 690. For GFS-42 - from 370 to 520 US dollars, for GFS-55 from 400 to 554 US dollars. Currently, the price of 98% L-lysine hydrochloride is USD 1800 per tonne, the price of 70% L-lysine hydrochloride is USD 908 per tonne. The export rate of lysine increased by 15% in the last three months of 2021 compared to the same period in 2020 ”.
Daria Snitko, head of the Center for Economic Forecasting of Gazprombank JSC, said that the pandemic contraction of the food market was offset by the support of the population from the state budget. “The external market continues to grow, but there are restrictions on the export of grain, oilseeds, oil. The sown area for sunflower in Russia in 2021 will be higher than the 8.5 million hectares planned by the Ministry of Agriculture. The ratio of prices for sunflower and oil in 2020 \ 2021 in conditions of a good harvest will shift towards processors, ”the expert explained.
Pavel Paramonov, Cargill Market Research Manager, explained that 2020-2021 is the peak years for the production of glucose and glucose-fructose syrups. The growth factor in this market segment is the growth in the production of glucose-fructose syrups against the background of expensive sugar. Growth is observed for starches both in production and consumption, but the rate of consumption is slowing down every year. Exports are stable (fluctuating in the range of 33-38 thousand tons, which is less than 10% of the production level). The amount of imports of both native and modified starch remains practically unchanged.
The second session was devoted to consumer trends and market opportunities for deep grain processing products. The session was moderated by Nikolai Lychev, managing partner of Agrotrend.ru. He formulated 10 main trends in the Russian agricultural sector for the next 10 years.
Vyacheslav Lashmankin, executive director of ASKOND, said that the Russian confectionery market in value terms ranks 8th in the world, which is 2,9% of the world market. “In the first quarter of 2021, the foreign trade balance amounted to +372,1 thousand tons in annual terms. The average annual growth in the volume of exports in physical terms amounted to 10,2%. 28 percent of all chocolate and chocolates produced in Russia were exported. The key task of the industry to ensure production growth is to develop exports, ”the speaker believes.
Sergey Mikhnyuk, Executive Director of the National Feed Union, spoke in detail about the needs of the livestock industry for such important feed components as methionine, threonine, lysine, tryptophan, vitamin A1000, vitamin B2, vitamin D3, vitamin E. “Russia continues to increase imports of feed additives, which is primarily due to the ongoing development of domestic livestock production. Considering that most of the feed additives, with the exception of some amino acids used in raising animals, are not produced in our country, the demand for these products will grow in the near future, ”the expert added.
Olga Samsonova, Director of Promotion at Simbio LLC, presented the Frontia technology to optimize the wet process of deep processing of wheat or corn. Frontia is a unique enzymatic technology that provides an increase in the yield of starch and gluten, reduces the viscosity, the consumption of raw materials while achieving the same indicators, and increases the capacity on existing equipment. Also, the speaker presented the technology for the production of beverages from cereals: “According to Euromonitor estimates, by 2025 the market for plant-based alternatives will reach $ 22 billion. Grain drinks have many advantages, so this area is extremely popular and promising. "
Marina Sidak, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Lecturer, Department of Statistics, Russian University of Economics. G.V. Plekhanova, noted: “The reduction in the acreage of sugar beet and the decrease in its yield led to a significant decrease in the volume of sugar production in the current season, and the record export of the previous season significantly reduced stocks, which led to an increase in domestic prices. Nevertheless, the price of sugar in 2020 did not go beyond the five-year maximum value ”.
The Association of Enterprises of Deep Processing of Grain organizes the conference "ProStarch" annually, trying to touch upon the most pressing issues of the industry of deep processing of vegetable raw materials and related industries. “This year the event has significantly expanded the list of issues discussed and the number of participating companies. We managed to create a warm and friendly atmosphere where participants and speakers exchange valuable knowledge and raise important issues of the Russian agro-industrial complex. We want to make our conference a platform for communication between representatives of the downstream industry and all interested colleagues, ”says Oleg Radin, President of the Association, at the end of the event.
