The Rosselkhoznadzor banned the import into Russia of two large consignments of potatoes due to land pollution, RIA VladNews reports with reference to the press service of the Rosselkhoznadzor. Vegetables were returned to the sender.
Specialists revealed violations of the discrepancy of imported products during quarantine phytosanitary control in relation to two vehicles with large lots of potatoes with a total weight of 48 tons.
So, during the inspection of the consignments received at the Vostochny Bordery LLC temporary storage warehouse in the village of Pogranichny, plant quarantine specialists revealed that the soil content on the potato tubers exceeds 1 percent of the mass of the received product.
At present, the Rosselkhoznadzor technical department is prohibited from importing potentially dangerous potatoes into the territory of the region. Agricultural products returned to China.
It is noted that soil on potato tubers can pose a threat to agriculture, as there is a risk of the introduction of dangerous pests and pathogens along with the soil, such as weevils, flea beetles, nematodes, brown rot, moth and potato cancer. Some of them lead to the death of the crop up to 100%, and in some cases the infected field becomes unsuitable for growing potatoes and other nightshade.
