The rise in prices for potatoes on the Russian market continues, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. According to key market players, the positive price trend in this segment is due to several factors at once. So, this week, most Russian farmers announced the completion of the shipment of potatoes directly from the field, which is why the farms offered for sale products from warehouses, the prices for which are traditionally higher.
At the same time, the demand for potatoes increased slightly, as small dealers and households began to purchase it for winter stocks. As a result, today in the main regions of production, potatoes are offered for sale at 8-15 rubles / kg ($ 0,13-0,24 / kg), which is on average 14% more expensive than at the end of last working week.
Also, price support on the potato market in the Russian Federation is supported by stable export of these products to Ukraine through the mediation of Belarus, since direct deliveries of potatoes to the Ukrainian market by Russian producers are currently impossible.
It is worth noting that despite the growth in potato prices on the Russian market today, these products still cost on average 11% lower than at the end of October 2018. At the same time, in most cases, farmers still try to lay the bulk of the potatoes for storage, expecting a further increase in prices for it in the winter.
