The Office of the Rosselkhoznadzor for the Krasnodar Territory and the Republic of Adygea received an application for quarantine phytosanitary control of a consignment of potatoes from Egypt weighing 28 tons. The supplementary declaration to the phytosanitary certificate indicates that the potato came from an area free of objects that are quarantined for the Russian Federation.
According to the correspondent of the Kazakh-Zerno news agency, during the inspection of a batch of regulated products, the inspectors of the Rosselkhoznadzor Administration established the presence of a golden potato nematode (Globodera rostochiensis (Woll) Behrens).
This year, this quarantine facility was discovered in imported regulated products for the first time. The infected cargo, in accordance with applicable law, will be returned to the shipper in Egypt.
As recalled in the Office, Golden Potato Nematode (Globodera rostochiensis) is a microscopic worm, which is one of the most dangerous quarantine pests. The nematode lives on the roots of plants in the nightshade family (on vegetables - potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, etc., and weeds - black nightshade, bleached, etc.). But potatoes are the only plant on which this pest can breed.
