Potato is one of the most important crops and is in great demand among consumers, said Abdel-Muain Kadamani, head of the crop production department of the Syrian Ministry of Agriculture, in an interview with SANA.
The peasants have the priority of cultivating this crop because of its relatively short production cycle and high price.
According to him, this season the total area sown by potatoes exceeded 14 hectares with the planned 000 hectares.
In Aleppo, 3 hectares were allotted for potato cultivation, about 800 hectares in Hama, more than 3 hectares in Tartus, 000 hectares in Daraa, 2 hectares in Homs, and 600 hectares in the Al-Gab valley.
According to Kadamani, a crop of about 500 tons is expected, which will fully cover the needs of the population and contribute to lowering potato prices.
