Breeding collective farms named after the 50th anniversary of the USSR and Aurora, as well as Pokrovskoye Plemzavod LLC, signed contracts with contractors for the implementation of irrigation and drainage works in the amount of almost 25 million rubles, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture reports.
Today in the Vologda region there are 254,4 thousand hectares of reclaimed land, of which 244,8 thousand hectares are agricultural land. It is these areas that have the greatest potential for the development of agriculture in the region.
In 1992, bringing land and reclamation systems in order was put on hold; large agricultural producers returned to this practice in 2014.
“A high and stable level of agricultural production can be ensured to a large extent on the basis of maintaining the reclamation fund in the region. Agricultural producers, carrying out measures for the reconstruction and technical re-equipment of reclamation systems, are provided with state support, - said the head of the Department of Agriculture and Food Resources of the region Sergey Poromonov. - Also, in order to introduce unused lands into agricultural circulation, from 2020, equipment for the destruction of shrubs and small forests and tillage equipment will be subsidized. Starting this year, the regional budget is beginning to implement measures for carrying out cultural and technical work, which include clearing land from shrubs, stone removal, soil planning and deep plowing.”
Land reclamation in the region was intensively carried out in the late 60s - 80s of the last century. Works were carried out on draining and at the same time on the enlargement of fields and the removal of shrubs. To date, the average service life of reclamation systems in the region exceeds 50 years. Despite this, the lands drained from excessive moisture make it possible for plant breeders to start spring field work 7-10 days earlier, and autumn harvesting and ploughing are extended by 15 days. At the same time, it should be noted that the farms of the region receive the main share of agricultural products from drained agricultural lands.
