Potatoes are becoming more expensive not only in Russia and the CIS countries. Potato prices in South Africa have more than doubled over the past year, up 102%.
Consumers now have to pay almost R10 for a 100kg bag of potatoes.
Last week, a sack of potatoes of this volume rose 13% and reached a high price due to the low supply of potatoes by farmers, as potatoes were not harvested enough.
The rise in prices exceeded previous highs recorded in mid-October last year. For a month, potatoes in South Africa have risen in price by 22%.
