On March 22, at a meeting chaired by Governor Yevgeny Kuyvashev, Director of the Ural Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture Nikita Zezin spoke about the scientific support of the crop industry.
“Our breeding center is a leader in the Ural Federal District and one of the leaders in Russia in terms of the efficiency of breeding. We annually transfer three or more new varieties of agricultural crops to the state test. The state register of breeding achievements approved for use on the territory of the Russian Federation contains 75 breeding varieties of the Ural Research Institute of Agriculture, of which 11 varieties have been included in the register over the past three years. In 2017, four patents were received for new varieties of agricultural crops, ”said Nikita Zezin.
He noted that varieties of crops bred in the Urals are popular with local farmers, because they are adapted to the local climate and have resistance to diseases characteristic of Ural plants. For example, potato varieties developed by scientists of the Ural Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture are not afraid of the Colorado potato beetle.
