The largest potato producer in the region is State Farm Yuzhno-Sakhalinskiy JSC, which accounts for about 50% of the total volume of potatoes produced by enterprises, and open ground vegetables - 45%. The second place in potato production is occupied by SPK Sokolovsky and JSC State Farm Teplichny with a share of 14% each. A third of the production of vegetables in the open ground falls on JSC State Farm Teplichny and a tenth part on JSC State Farm Zarechnoye.
Now the island region is actively preparing for a new sowing campaign. So, at present, farmers are sowing seeds of various varieties of cabbage in greenhouses, and are also preparing for planting potatoes.
According to the assessment of the Ministry of Agriculture and Trade of the Sakhalin Region, the stocks of potatoes and vegetables produced by Sakhalin enterprises and peasant farms will be sufficient until the next season's harvest is put on sale.
Today, about 21 private household plots are registered in the island region, whose share in the total production, taking into account agricultural enterprises and peasant farms, is 28% for potatoes, and 17,3% for vegetables.
In general, self-sufficiency in potatoes is 90,7%, in vegetables and melons - 64,9%, while among the subjects of the Far East, self-sufficiency in potatoes and vegetables in the Sakhalin Region is one of the highest. The necessary demand is covered by supplies from the mainland of Russia, including in order to expand the assortment group of vegetables and potatoes.
The situation with the provision of Sakhalin and Kuril residents with potatoes and vegetables is under constant monitoring by the government of the Sakhalin Region.
