About this in the comments VoiceUA said the head of the Union of Ukrainian Villages Ivan Tomich.
“The farmers have planted more potatoes. Today, in most regions of Ukraine, a fairly good harvest. June will be the decisive month for the harvest of this root crop. It looks like there will be enough rainfall. In those regions where potatoes are the main crop, according to preliminary forecasts, there will be a good harvest of potatoes, and we will harvest 50% more of it than last year. This will directly affect the pricing policy. Compared to last year, potatoes will be 40-50% cheaper, ”I. Tomic said.
According to him, farmers suffered huge losses due to quarantine.
“As for early vegetables, such as cucumbers, tomatoes, cabbage, the situation is not very encouraging. However, there is nothing critical. At the same time, their prices are still high and will not fall in the near future. Imported vegetables are mainly imported into the country and thus cover the shortage in the market for early vegetables. In addition, farmers suffered huge losses due to quarantine. After all, when the harvest ripened, they lost the opportunity to sell their products due to the closure of food markets.
As for late vegetables, in particular, onions, beets and carrots, it is difficult to predict. I do not exclude that vegetables of the borsch set will be cheaper this year, as it looks like the harvest will be better this year than in 2019, ”concluded I. Tomic.
