At the end of December 2020, a new agro-industrial complex development program was adopted in the Omsk region. According to this document, one of the important tasks for local agricultural enterprises will be the full provision of the region with potatoes and vegetables by 2025.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Nikolai Drofa, speaking at a press conference on the new program, noted that if the region traditionally provided itself for some types of vegetables (cabbage and beets) in 2020, then there was a deficit in other crops, especially greenhouse ones.
- We still have one area - vegetables and potatoes - where we are not fully provided per capita today. This is due to the fact that the region is in the zone of risky farming. And the year was difficult: many vegetable growing enterprises faced a labor shortage due to the closure of borders and the absence of migrants. The consequence of this was a decrease in planting areas, which also affected gross production.
