In 2021, it is planned to import more than 1000 tons of high-quality seed potatoes from the Republic of Belarus and more than 200 tons of grain seeds from the Russian Federation to the Republic of Tajikistan.
According to the head of the Department of Seed Production and Breeding Achievements of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan, Dzhurakhon Azizov, last year 526 tons of wheat seeds of modern varieties - "Moskovsky-56", "Moskovsky-39" and "Mironovsky-808" were imported from Russia to Tajikistan. Of this amount, 350 tons were distributed to the dekhkan farms of the Khatlon region, districts of republican subordination, the rest was sent to other regions of the country.
"Also, by 2020, due to development partner organizations from the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, 135,5 tons of Picasso potato seeds were received, of which 77,5 tons were transported to the Rasht region and more than 50 tons to other cities and regions of the country," he added is he.
Many large farms import Pakistani and Dutch seed potatoes from abroad. At the same time, part of the imported seed potatoes is sent to the Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the Tajik Agrarian University named after Sh. Shotemur to test their ability to grow and climate resistance.
The Ministry of Agriculture of the country expects that more than 70 thousand hectares will be allocated for potatoes this year. At the same time, the main sowing will be carried out on an area of 58 thousand hectares, early sowing on 8 thousand hectares, and repeated sowing of potatoes on 6,5 thousand hectares. On average, if 20 tons of potatoes are harvested from each hectare, the harvest will be 1 million 400 thousand tons of potatoes.
