On June 22, chaired by the First Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia Dzhambulat Khatuov, a meeting with the regions was held via videoconference on the topic "On the approval of the subprogram" Development of potato breeding and seed production in the Russian Federation "of the federal scientific and technical program for the development of agriculture for 2017-2025.
The Stavropol Territory at the meeting was represented by the head of the agrarian department of the region Vladimir Sitnikov, the first deputy minister Roman Kovryga and the director of the limited liability company experimental greenhouse complex "Meristemnye kultury" Predgorny region Yevgeny Balabanova.
LLC "Meristemnye Kultury" is the only organization in the Stavropol Territory engaged in primary potato seed production based on tissue culture. The organization has 2 hectares of protected soil, 700 hectares of arable land, of which 140 hectares are occupied by planting seed material, a biological laboratory and a storage facility with a regulated regime for 1800 tons. The enterprise annually produces 1-2 thousand tons of seed potatoes super-elite. As a result of breeding work, five new varieties have been bred.
During her report on the state of potato seed production, Evgenia Balabanova noted that Meristemnye Kultury LLC is ready to represent the Stavropol region in this area and become a co-executor of the comprehensive research plan "Development of potato breeding and seed production in the Russian Federation."
- The implementation of this program will allow modernizing the infrastructure of the full scientific and technological cycle of growing seed potatoes using the apical meristem method "in vitro" and increasing by 2025 the production of tuber superelites in the Stavropol Territory to 4-5 thousand tons annually. Due to the natural and climatic conditions, our region has great potential in this area, - summed up Vladimir Sitnikov.
