Every year, local producers send high-quality seed potatoes from the territory of the Kaliningrad region to other regions of Russia, the official website of the Rosselkhoznadzor for the Kaliningrad region reports. The main volumes of shipped potatoes fall on the period from February to June. The geography of deliveries is wide, including farmers in Moscow, Leningrad, Bryansk, Tula, Astrakhan, Rostov, Novosibirsk and other regions.
Thus, since the beginning of the year, the Office of the Rosselkhoznadzor for the Kaliningrad region issued 281 phytosanitary certificates for 5 thousand tons of seed potatoes. According to the results of laboratory examinations carried out in an institution subordinate to the Rosselkhoznadzor - Federal State Budgetary Institution Kaliningrad "MVL" - all batches prepared for export met phytosanitary requirements.
Growing seed potatoes is hard work. High-quality soil preparation, pre-planting treatment of tubers, strict observance of the distances between tubers during planting at the optimum time is necessary. After planting, potatoes require careful care. The implementation of the technology is strictly controlled at all stages. The uniqueness of the region is primarily due to its location. All these factors make it possible to achieve high quality seed material produced in the Kaliningrad region. The production of both seed and commercial potatoes is developing in the region.
