In the Sverdlovsk Region, the Ural Potato breeding center (JSC Belorechensky agro-industrial complex) started growing elite potato varieties. Investments in the project amounted to 220 million rubles.
According to Alexander Kozhevnikov, General Director of JSC Belorechensky AO, earlier elite potato varieties were purchased from Europe. It is assumed that the breeding center in Beloyarsky district will bring its own seed material up to 10 thousand tons into the Russian market in four to five, and in seven years it will be able to oust foreign counterparts from the market. After reaching its design capacity in 2019, the company will conduct seed production of 15-20 varieties of potatoes. A seed-breeding center began to be built in 2015.
