The harvesting of vegetables and potatoes in the fields of the province is still ongoing. According to the data of the Department of Plant Growing and Agriculture of the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Samara vegetable growers have already fulfilled practically all indices and indicators set by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation. About 95 thousand tons of vegetables were harvested, while the planned 82 thousand. And the final figure continues to grow, since, for example, potatoes have yet to be harvested from 250 hectares, according to an agreement with the federal center, 148 thousand tons must be harvested.
The average yield of "second bread" in Samara agricultural enterprises has grown significantly compared to last year's results. If last year they collected about 20-25 tons per hectare, now this figure reaches 32 tons. In neighboring regions, this figure is at the level of 22-27 tons.
- The prospects for the development of regional potato growing are obvious, the products are in demand, especially since the province provides itself with potatoes by 70 percent, - commented Vladimir Bolshakov, head of the crop production and farming department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Samara Region.
Today, the region has a program for the development of land reclamation, irrigation systems are being restored, new canals are being built, new sprinklers are being assembled in municipal areas.
In the Samara potato farms, modern potato harvesters are used, that is, the entire train of equipment and technology is fully involved and tested at the European level. The next task is to increase the volume of potato seed production.
