In two farms of the Agroholding "STEP" in the Stavropol Territory and in the Rostov Region, a project is being launched to put into circulation and restore soil fertility, reported in press service of the Agroholding.
The company intends to recultivate and put into circulation areas with salinized soils, which were irrigated using outdated technologies in the 80s, as well as close to groundwater. Salts dissolved in water accumulated in the soil, which led to its degradation.
Agroholding STEPPE starts work on restoring soil fertility. At the first stage of the project, a chemical analysis of the soil will be carried out. Depending on the level of concentration and composition of salts in the soil (for example, sulfates, bicarbonates, chlorides), a fertility restoration scheme will be selected. For soil restoration, phosphogypsum is used in combination with crop residues. They contribute to the creation of a favorable environment for microflora, which contributes to the "improvement" of the soil.
“Land resources are the basis of agriculture and food production. Preservation and restoration of soil fertility, the introduction of progressive careful agricultural technologies - these principles are an integral part of our work. We aim to work not only today, but also take care of the environment in the interests of future generations,” said Andrey Neduzhko, General Director of Steppe Agroholding
The total period for changing soil pH to the required level and restoring fertility is approximately 2-3 years, the press service of the agricultural holding explained.
The private initiative of AgroHolding "STEP" coincides with the direction of state policy at the federal and regional levels to involve agricultural land in circulation.
