Putting into circulation previously unused land for agricultural production is one of the key areas of work for the region's farmers. The expansion of cultivated land reduces the dependence of the Moscow region on external supplies of agricultural products and increases the level of food security, reports official website of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Moscow Region.
“Agrarians of the Moscow Region have completed the task set by the head of the region and have reached the target for putting previously unused land into circulation. We were supposed to put into circulation 40 thousand hectares of land this year, today 40 thousand and 66 hectares have been put into circulation. We expect that the target indicator will be exceeded even more, as work continues,” said Georgy Filimonov, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Moscow Region, who is in charge of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food. He added that a number of lands being re-introduced into cultivation have not been used for decades. These territories have to be cleared of perennial vegetation, stones, and other factors - this is a complex and painstaking work. Then the land is plowed up and sown with agricultural crops. A significant part of the new lands has been given over to grain crops. The program for putting new lands into circulation was launched in 2014. Since that moment, 460 thousand hectares of unused land have been put into circulation in the Moscow region.
