The northern capital consumes an average of 253 thousand tons of potatoes per year. Since St. Petersburg itself cannot produce potatoes, it is ranked among the recipient regions by the Agribusiness Expert and Analytical Center (AB-Center).

In the Northwestern Federal District, despite the general shortage of locally produced potatoes, there are donor regions - the Leningrad and Novgorod regions, where the total production volume exceeds consumption by 66,1 thousand tons. This volume is sent mainly to St. Petersburg. Potatoes are also delivered from the regions of the Central District and from abroad (Belarus, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Israel).
Moscow's average annual potato needs are estimated at 595,5 thousand tons. The capital feeds half the country. But mainly potatoes come here from the Bryansk, Tula, Lipetsk, Tver, Tambov regions, as well as from the regions of the Volga Federal District. Imported potatoes are delivered mainly in the off-season.
The Bryansk region was named the largest donor region. The region has the ability to supply 643,2 thousand tons of potatoes outside its borders without prejudice to domestic consumption. The second place is taken by the Tula region. The region can export 381,8 thousand tons of "second bread" without prejudice to itself (which significantly exceeds the annual needs of St. Petersburg).
Meanwhile, according to operational data from the Ministry of Agriculture on October 26, potatoes in agricultural organizations and peasant (farmer) farms were dug from an area of 273,1 thousand hectares (or 90% of the planted area). 6,4 million tons were accumulated with a yield of 233 kg / ha.
