Analysts from the National Union of Agricultural Insurers, based on an analysis of satellite images of fields, found that in the Stavropol region there is a high probability of crop loss due to drought next year.
From April to October, rainfall in the region fell below normal, and the index of accumulated soil moisture was one third lower than the average for the last 10 years. In addition, the air temperature in the spring-summer period exceeded the norm for the same period.
The level of moisture reserves today is in the range of 15-17%, and in some areas of the region – 22-27%. Experts note that the situation in the regional agro-industrial complex depends entirely on how much precipitation will fall in the coming winter. If everything goes well, moisture reserves can be restored by the beginning of the new season.
