The company will launch an agricultural program in Siberia and will support farmers
President at an investment forum in Sochi PepsiCo in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, the Caucasus and Central Asia, Neil Starrok, Governor of the Novosibirsk Region Andrei Travnikov and Director General of the Agency for Investment Development of the Novosibirsk Region Alexander Zyryanov signed an agreement on the construction of a snack factory in Novosibirsk, the press service said PepsiCo.
The new company will produce chips and crackers under the brand names Lay's, Cheetos and KhrusTeam and will become the third factory PepsiCo in Russia, producing salty snacks. Similar enterprises of the company operate in Kashira near Moscow and in Azov (Rostov region). According to the Agency for Investment Development of the Novosibirsk Region, the capacity of the enterprise will be about 50 tons of finished products per year. Investments in the project are estimated at 12 billion rubles, specified “Agroinvestment»Representative PepsiCo.
Now the land is being completed, design and survey work has begun. The launch of the plant is scheduled for 2021. The company's products will be presented in all regions of Siberia, the Urals and the Far East, as well as in neighboring countries.
«PepsiCo was one of the first international companies to start producing its products on the territory of the USSR, and its relationship with the Russian market has a long and rich history, - said Neil Sturrock. - We continue to invest in the Russian market. The construction of a new enterprise in Novosibirsk will increase the efficiency of the company's logistics by localizing production and purchasing raw materials from local suppliers. "
To transport snacks from the center of the country to Siberia, the Far East and Kazakhstan is quite expensive due to the large logistical leverage, therefore it is more rational to produce them in Siberia, the representative explained PepsiCo... And since it is even more difficult and more expensive to deliver raw materials, the company will launch an agricultural program in the Novosibirsk region and will help local agricultural producers grow the chips they need for processing. “We will contract for the future harvest, provide farmers with the necessary seed material, and advance payments if necessary. Our agricultural managers will train agricultural producers to properly grow potatoes of the quality we need, ”he said. “Thus, we will build the entire chain from potato production to finished products.” The cost of the agricultural program has not yet been announced. The representative of the company clarified only that these investments are not included in 12 billion rubles, which will go to the construction of the plant, these will be separate investments.
According to Rosstat, last year all the country's farms harvested 22,4 million tons of potatoes, including about 7,1 million tons of agricultural enterprises and peasant farms in total. Harvest in the Novosibirsk region amounted to 315,9 thousand tons, of which in the commodity sector 76,5 thousand tons were produced.
PepsiCo, according to its own data, is the largest raw milk processor in Russia and an industrial buyer of potatoes - the company annually purchases more than 350 thousand tons of potatoes. To ensure the high quality of raw materials for its products, the company organizes seminars and trainings for producers of potatoes and raw milk, helps farms in the purchase of planting material, plant protection products and fertilizers. The program also provides for investments in equipment for vegetable storage with a climate control system. Through participation in this program, partners PepsiCo were able to significantly increase the yield of potatoes - from an average of 13 t / ha to 25 t / ha. Today 100% of the potatoes supplied to the company's factories are grown in Russia.
