Potato supplies to foreign markets in the first eight months of this year doubled compared to the same period in 2022. According to the executive director of the Potato Union, Alexey Krasilnikov, the export volume amounted to about 80 thousand tons. At the same time, tuber imports have decreased markedly.
The speaker noted that, in general, potato harvesting in the country has been completed. According to operational data from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, another record has been achieved - about 8 million tons of products obtained in the organized sector.
However, such high figures did not please many domestic farmers. Selling prices for potatoes in a number of Russian regions fell to 4-6 rubles/kg, which turned out to be lower than the cost of the crop.
According to Alexey Krasilnikov, in some regions the authorities may offer additional subsidies to potato and open-ground vegetable growers. The industry union hopes that these measures will be implemented, since agricultural producers need state support.
