According to Eastfruit, the situation on the market of potatoes and carrots in countries belonging to the project monitoring region continued to be ambiguous.
So, the prices for potatoes basically decreased, and the highest rates of cheapening of production were noted in Russia, Poland and Georgia. Meanwhile, carrots rose in price in Tajikistan, while prices in other countries remained relatively stable.
Russian farmers were forced to lower potato prices last week to an average of 15 cents per kg amid worsening product quality in the supply on the market. As a result, Russia offered the cheapest potatoes from all the countries included in the monitoring Eastfruit. In Tajikistan, meanwhile, the situation remained more stable, and prices did not change from the previous week, still averaging 17 cents per kg.
The market conditions in Moldova have also changed little, where the price of potatoes remained at an average level of 23 cents per kg. In Ukraine, there was a slight increase in the average price, which increased by only 1 cent per kg. Meanwhile, Ukrainian farmers continued to keep high-quality products in storage, hoping for more rapid growth in prices in the future. As a result, some buyers have already announced problems with the purchase of the necessary volumes of quality potatoes in Ukraine.
Sellers of imported potatoes in Georgia were forced to slightly lower prices for their products: their average level fell by 8% to 26 cents per kg. Farmers in Poland followed a similar policy, where the week ended with prices averaging 28 cents per kg. There have been few changes in the Polish market for imported potatoes: last year's prices for potatoes produced in the Netherlands and Belgium still ranged between 37-42 cents per kg, while the price of early products imported from Cyprus still reached 89 cents per kg maximum range.
Unlike potatoes, carrot prices in Tajikistan have risen 9% over the past week, reaching an average of 13 cents per kg. Meanwhile, carrots practically did not change in price in Russia, despite the continued reduction in the supply of quality products. As a week earlier, the average carrot price in Russia was 23 cents per kg. Ukrainian farmers, like their counterparts from Tajikistan, managed to slightly raise prices for their products, which reached an average of 25 cents per kg.
At the same time, the situation in the remaining three countries has not changed much. The average price of imported carrots in Moldova and Georgia remained at 32 cents per kg and 56 cents per kg, respectively, and farmers from Poland offered their products on average 41 cents per kg. As a week earlier, the price of imported carrots produced in the Netherlands on the Polish market also did not change: 40-48 cents per kg.
