Prices for last year's products increased in Russia and Moldova. In Ukraine, carrots of the 2018 harvest fell in price, and farmers began the season for the supply of early products.
According to EastFruit, the potato and carrot market in the countries of the project's monitoring region is at the logical stage of the end of the outgoing season: the stocks of the 2018 harvest are almost exhausted, and early potatoes and carrots will soon begin to play a key role in market trends.
As a result of the week, prices for last year's potatoes rose only in Russia and Moldova. At the same time, if the price increase on the Russian market was only 8%, and the share of domestic products was still quite high, then prices in Moldova soared by 62%, and Belarus was the main supplier of last year's potatoes. As a result, Moldova became the leader in terms of prices in the project monitoring region, and their average level was fixed at $ 0,72 / kg at the end of the week.
Meanwhile, potato producers from the southern regions of Ukraine and Transcarpathia reported on the increase in the supply of domestic products of the new crop. As a result, by the end of the week, the average price for Ukrainian early potatoes managed to drop to $ 0,57 / kg.
In Russia, this market segment was still represented by imported products, while Azerbaijan and Egypt remained the key suppliers. By the end of the week, the price on the Russian market dropped by 6% to $ 0,62 / kg.
Domestic early potatoes in Georgia also fell slightly more significantly, falling in price by 10% to $ 0,66 / kg.
The main changes in the market of last year's carrots were recorded in Moldova and Ukraine. In Moldova, this product increased in price by 10% by the end of the week, and on the Ukrainian market, on the contrary, fell by a similar percentage. Recall that the price of carrots of the 2018 harvest has been growing continuously in Ukraine since the end of March, having risen over this period from $ 0,25 / kg to $ 0,76 / kg in the previous week.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian producers began deliveries of new crop carrots this week, following which prices for the first consignments of products were fixed in the range of $ 1,06-1,33 / kg.
