The import of potatoes from Russia to the Azerbaijani market, compared to the same period last year, increased in quantitative terms by 25,4 times, in value terms - by 27,4 times, according to an article by the Interfax-Azerbaijan news agency.
The total volume of imports of tubers to Azerbaijan in the first quarter of 2019 amounted to 66,8 thousand tons (+ 24,4% over the same period in 2018) in the amount of $ 17,3 million (+ 32,5%). Russia is one of the three largest exporters of potatoes to Azerbaijan, along with Iran and Pakistan. In the first quarter of 2019, Iran supplied 33,7 thousand tons of potatoes (worth $ 8,2 million) to the Azerbaijani market, Russia - 26,7 thousand tons (worth $ 6,6 million), Pakistan - 3,5 thousand tons (for $ 1,4 million).
At the same time, the export of Azerbaijani potatoes in the period under review decreased by 24,6% in quantitative terms and by 24,4% in value. In January-March, Azerbaijan exported 1 tons of potatoes for $ 443. The main importer was Russia, which imported 951 tons of potatoes (-29,1%) for $ 414,6 (-29,2%). For the entire 2018, Azerbaijan exported 66,6 thousand tons of potatoes worth $ 29,6 million.
Due to the sharp increase in prices in the country for potatoes and cabbage (up to 2019 times) in the first quarter of 1, the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan in April approved the size of customs duties on exports of these products. For potatoes, including young and seed, the export duty is $ 1 per XNUMX kg.
