The hogweed, which is actively fought in Russia, can serve as raw material for ethanol production, even better than sugar cane, said the doctor of economic sciences, a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vladimir Quint at a meeting at Kemerovo State University (KemSU). This was reported by the press service of the university.
“In many countries they plant whole fields, since from one hectare of hogweed you can get almost three times more ethanol than from one hectare of sugarcane. Everything needs technology and the right strategy, ”said the scientist.
During a meeting with students and university staff, the scientist spoke about his work in the field of strategy and the experience of creating the Department of Financial Strategy at Moscow State University, which prepares professionals for the industry.
Citing successful ethanol export strategies, Quint noted Brazil's experience. Thanks to the implemented strategy, the South American country completely abandoned the import of oil and gas. In turn, an ethanol plant was built in Kazakhstan, which allowed to reduce gasoline consumption and increase hydrocarbon exports.
Hogweed Sosnowski - a dangerous umbrella plant, which is widely spread in the European part of Russia. In contact with skin, it causes severe burns, as it increases the sensitivity of the skin to ultraviolet radiation.
