Onions continue to fall in price on the Russian market. According to analysts of the EastFruit project, the trend towards a price decline in this segment was outlined as early as the previous week, and since Monday, Russian farmers have been forced to more actively revise prices for these products downward, citing weak demand.
So, at the moment the price for high-quality onions on the Russian market is announced in the range of 9-16 rubles / kg ($ 0,14-0,25 / kg), which is on average 14% cheaper than at the end of the last working week. Prices for substandard products are announced from 5 rubles / kg ($ 0,08 / kg).
To date, almost all farms in the Southern Federal District of the Russian Federation have begun harvesting onions, so the supply is growing quite quickly. But the demand, according to farmers, remains extremely low, and price reduction, unfortunately, does not affect sales.
It is worth noting that to date, prices for onions in the Russian Federation have already reached the level of prices in the same period last year. According to key market players, by the end of the month no prerequisites for price increases in this segment are yet to be expected. But at the same time, most market operators agree that the situation on the onion market of the Russian Federation can radically change in September.
