On April 16-17, Director of the Department of Plant Growing, Mechanization, Chemicalization and Plant Protection of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia Petr Chekmarev and Deputy Director of the FSBI Rosselkhoztsentr Dmitry Govorov visited the Republic of Abkhazia to monitor the implementation of the action plan to combat the quarantine pest - a brown-marble bug.
Petr Chekmarev and Dmitry Govorov, together with the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Abkhazia Daur Tarba and Deputy Minister Vladimir Daurov, inspected a number of districts of Abkhazia in which manual bedbug collection and insecticide treatment are ongoing. On April 17, 2018, about four tons of wintering adults (an inactive stage of insect development) were collected and destroyed in Abkhazia, which is approximately 24 million pieces of its adult individuals. The measures taken against the quarantine pest helped stabilize the situation and prevent damage to the agriculture of Abkhazia in the amount of about 6 billion rubles.
Currently, about 250 working groups have been created in the Republic to combat the brown-marble bug. Each district is assigned to employees of the Agricultural Center from Rostov, Krasnodar, Adygea and Stavropol branches.
Information about the situation on a daily basis is transmitted to the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia.
