Russian scientists have proposed a new technology for the production of pesticides, which are now imported from China and are not produced in Russia. The press service of the Russian University of Chemical Technology (RCTU) named after V.I. Mendeleev.
“According to experts, the volume of imports of Chinese pro-chlorine and bentazone in Russia is from 50 to 200 tons per year. The developments of the RCTU scientists will help to reduce the import of these pesticides by at least 20%, and in the long term, completely abandon the services of foreign suppliers, ”the statement says. Thus, by 2026, Russia will be able to abandon the import of Chinese pesticides, experts conclude.
Prochlorase is an effective fungicide widely used in horticulture and agriculture to control the growth of fungi infecting cereals, field crops and fruits. Bentazone is a selective herbicide against broadleaf weeds, which currently has no alternative in terms of spectrum and effectiveness.
According to the RCTU, despite the pandemic, last year the Russian market for plant protection products in value terms increased by 9%, in the case of pesticides - by 15%, and amounted to almost 1,95 billion US dollars. Despite this, 60% of the pesticides exported from China to Europe go to the Eastern European region, including Russia.
The technology for the production of active ingredients of pesticides proposed by Russian scientists consists of three stages: laboratory research, scaling up of synthesis methods and their pilot testing, design and launch of industrial production on the basis of one of the largest Russian companies.
