According to the portal Eastfruit, the project "Financing, Expansion and Development of Cooperatives for Georgian Farmers" (FinExCoop Georgia) together with the supermarket chain Carrefour held a Potato Festival in Tbilisi at the end of November. The organizers called the presentation of new varieties of potatoes for retail buyers, as well as helping farmers in establishing direct contacts with sellers, as the main tasks of the event.
According to Tornike Metskhvarishvili, coordinator of the FinExCoop Georgia project, supermarket visitors showed great interest in the festival. The project representatives explained to the buyers what the advantages of each variety are. This helped to make the right choice. Typically, in supermarkets, consumers are unable to obtain such information.
As Metskhvarishvili noted, the highest quality potatoes, both washed and unwashed, were presented at the festival. Prices for all types of products were fixed. After the festival, Carrefour representatives contacted the manufacturers to agree with them on the supply of goods.
