During a government meeting on Friday, Deputy Prime Minister for Agro-Industrial Complex Esenmurad Orazgeldyev reported to the Turkmen leader that experts from the agricultural industry and regional administrations had prepared proposals to reduce the area allotted for cotton by 40 thousand hectares in favor of growing potatoes, vegetables and melons.
Previously, 620 thousand hectares were allocated for cotton in Turkmenistan, from which they received 1 250 000 tons of raw cotton. And for planting potatoes, vegetables and melons - 55 550 hectares.
The President of Turkmenistan instructed the leadership of the parliament to modernize legislation in the agricultural sector, and also sent Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who oversees the economic and financial sector, on a business trip to get acquainted with the state of affairs in the regions.
