Russian farmers this week managed to increase selling prices for carrots, project analysts say Eastfruit. According to market players, a noticeable increase in trading activity in this segment contributes to price growth. Most farms have suspended sales of high quality carrots in anticipation of even higher prices, and they plan to start selling these root crops only in early March.
In particular, at the moment, carrots go on sale at 24-32 rubles/kg ($0,31-0,42/kg), which is 17% more expensive on average than a week earlier. Experts explain the increase in prices for these products by the fact that many local producers are running out of high-quality carrots, the harvest of which this year was rather modest. Thus, the reduction in supply on the market against the backdrop of good demand allowed farmers to raise prices.
At the same time, project analysts east fruit note that the rise in prices for high-quality carrots in the Russian market could be more rapid. However, the presence of large volumes of products from Belarus on the market, which is offered at almost the same prices as carrots from local farms, prevents Russian farmers from raising the price of these products more intensively.
It should be added that today the price of carrots in Russia is on average 44% higher than in the same period last year. At the same time, in the near future, a number of farms are planning to make another attempt to establish a higher price level in this segment.
