In the Vitebsk region of Belarus, on the basis of the Vitebsk Zonal Institute of Agriculture of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, a seminar was held on the most relevant varieties of potatoes.
During the seminar, a tasting was organized: the participants were offered to try boiled potatoes of nine modern Belarusian varieties. It was prepared by the staff of the institute under absolutely identical conditions, without spices and salt.
Which Belarusian potato experts considered the best? At the tasting, the majority chose Palats (31%), the second and third places were taken by Breeze (21%) and Uladar (19%), respectively.
According to the director of the company Andrey Balysh, events of this kind have already become traditional, because they help to determine the preferences of buyers and study consumer demand. Each variety differs not only in yield, disease resistance, but also in taste: what is suitable for mashed potatoes is not suitable for making Russian salad, french fries and chips.
This year, the zonal institute plans to increase the area allocated for growing potatoes by 20 hectares. Now this culture will be cultivated here on 80 hectares.
