“The harvest in the region is coming to an end. The gross grain harvest has already exceeded 2,17 million tons, which is 40% more than the plan. This is an absolute record for grain harvest in the entire history of agriculture in the region. Potato production also achieved an increase of 20%; excluding the private sector, 475 thousand tons have already been collected. The volume of grain and potatoes produced is enough to meet our own needs, and send part of the harvest outside the region,” said Gleb Nikitin, governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region.
As of October 17, 99% of the area occupied by grains and 95% by potatoes had been harvested in the region. The plan for sugar beet production was also exceeded by 5% - 85 thousand tons of root crops were dug from 336% of the area. 70% of the area under vegetables has been harvested - 20 thousand tons of them have been harvested, and 90% of the area devoted to oilseeds - 61,5 thousand tons of seeds have been threshed.
The average grain yield in the region is 34,4 c/ha (in 2022 – 28,1 c/ha); potatoes – 337,1 c/ha (in 2022 – 299,3 c/ha); sugar beet – 302,8 c/ha (in 2022 – 201 c/ha).
