Producers of agricultural products turned to the state for help due to a lack of capacity for storing vegetables, Kommersant reports, citing an appeal from members of the Potato Union to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation. According to the publication, the shortage arose due to the expected high potato harvest. In addition, rising prices for imported equipment create difficulties.
According to analysts' forecasts, this season the potato harvest will be approximately eight million tons, which is 800 thousand tons more than in 2022. Agricultural enterprises do not have enough space for approximately 300-400 thousand tons of potatoes. It is noted that the collection from subsidiary farms could amount to another 12 million tons.
